It’s officially June, babes, and in my book that mean it’s officially SUMMER. The start of summer is my favorite time of the year. Sun kissed skin, rooftop drinks, cute mini dresses, and of course – new beauty trends. As many of you know, beauty is something I’ve been super into these days. And summer always provides us with new bold lipsticks, eye shadows, and color trends I can’t wait to get my hands on. So when JCPenney asked me to visit their in-store Sephora for a beauty makeover, I was ALL over it!
Of course I had to do a little shopping before I got my makeover on (the beauty of having a Sephora INSIDE a JCPenney!). Once I had my fix, it was time for a little pampering. My Sephora Area Education Manager, Ashley, was the best. Basically everything she tried on me, I bought. And the best part was that the entire time she was doing my makeup, she was teaching me how to apply everything myself. Girls, I have so many tips for you. Just WAIT.
TIP #1: When applying primer, dab the product onto your skin. Keyword, DAB!
After Ashley removed all of my makeup, we started with the Boscia Charcoal Mask to enhance and hydrate my skin. I literally use this at least 3-4 times a week. I’m obsessed. Next, we applied the Black Up Primer Broad Spectrum SPF 25. Primers work by filling in fine lines and by giving your makeup something to adhere to. Which is why it’s a VITAL step in your makeup routine. When applying, put a small dot (the size of a dime) on your fingertips (or beauty blender) and dab onto your skin.
TIP #2: Always buy a BB Cream with SPF. Protect your skin, ladies!
Next up, BB Cream. Now I have combination skin. So while I have small pores, my skin can get pretty greasy. I need a BB Cream that hydrates my skin, without making it look oily. And my girl Ashley hooked it UP with my new favorite: Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream with SPF 35. (All about that SPF, girls!).
TIP #3: Apply your under-eye concealer in a point-down triangle!
Girls I found out that I have been applying under-eye concealer ALL wrong. I usually do one quick swoop, like 70% of the makeup using population. And it turns out we are sorely mistaken. The key is to use a concealer brush and apply 3 dots: one in the corner of your eye by your nose, one on the outside corner, and one underneath your eye, to create a point-down TRIANGLE. Then you connect your dots and blend. This allows for MAXIMUM coverage. I feel like a new woman.
Tip #4: Bold is BACK
Okay now for the good stuff. I usually tend to go for a smoky eye-red lip combo, but I’ve been really wanting to try something different and go for a bolder look. So when I told Ashley this, she knew just what to do. She introduced me to bolder pops of color I would have never used before: blue + green Marc Jacobs eyeliner, Lilac Ombre eyeshadow, and Coral lipstick. The trends are out and the 80s are BACK. This season, beauty experts are combining summer corals with deep sea blues, teals, and purples, for a fun flirty look.
Tip #5: ALWAYS use a setting powder!!!
Once you’ve perfected your face, set it with a light powder, like Cover FX. (It’s the best of the best of the best!!!).
I cannot express how inspired I am by this makeover. These bold makeup trends can add just a little pop for your everyday look, or add some seriously fabulous drama for special occasions. I cannot wait to try out all my new goodies and practice what I learned this weekend! Thank you for the tips and love @Sephora in @JCPenney! ♥
